I really enjoy First Week when they have lots of events going on. That is the first week in the fall semester when all the new freshmen come in. In my first year they had Bob Saget do stand up in the Curry Hicks cage. Everyone was dying from laughter, it was amazing. Umass also periodically puts on big barbeques when weather is nice. These types of events you can just drop by between classes and enjoy. Joining a fraternity like Theta Chi or a sorority like Alpha Chi Omega can give you an amazing experience. These are the types of friends you will forever remember and cherish for decades after college.
They have the highest retention rates, as in students who join enjoy their experience at UMass and are less likely to transfer elsewhere. These fraternities and sororities no longer have the terrible "Animal House" image.
